The
focus for Reformations is a former site of exclusion, a nineteenth-century
county pauper lunatic asylum at Exminster near Exeter.
The project investigates the methods of containment and coercion and
involves the unearthing of narratives relating to the site's histories,
including its recent redevelopment into owner-occupier gated residencies
- a former place of exclusion transformed into a place of self-exclusion
and exclusivity.
The project examines the building’s spaces as conduits between
memory, social practices, architecture, and discursive networks and
sites, especially those relating to regulatory systems, institutional
controls and constraints. |
